The shipping industry never stands still; it is constantly moving forward to accomplish more efficient, more sustainable, and safer operations.
Numerous smart shipping technologies are accelerating this progress. The driving forces are rapid advances in sensor technology and (remote) connectivity. This is supported by major developments in data capture and analysis in addition to AI.
The path to smart shipping is an ongoing process. Governments, knowledge institutes and businesses work together on different fields to provide a nurturing environment for smart shipping. And to develop promising initiatives into large scale applications.
Rotterdam based scale-ups like Captain AI and Techbinder develop solutions to make smart shipping a reality. Techbinder, an alumni of the PortXL innovation accelerator programme, helps its customers to get the most out of digital technology by improving Human-Machine-Interaction. Also, Captain AI is developing the world’s first safe and fully autonomous shipping solution using high-fidelity simulation, cutting-edge sensors and state-of-the-art deep learning techniques.
We stimulate with research, for example at the Research lab Autonomous Shipping at TU Delft and we facilitate collaboration in the sector to further develop the technology and help companies grow their business. SMASH!, the Netherlands Forum for Smart Shipping, supports cooperation between the established parties and innovative start-ups and scale-ups and designed a detailed roadmap to roll out smart shipping in the Netherlands.
