Threefold anniversary
This year, the Wereldhavendagen is celebrating a threefold anniversary: not only is it the 45th edition of the event itself, the Port of Rotterdam Authority is also 90 years old and the Nieuwe Waterweg is celebrating its 150th anniversary . That is why the World Port Days 2022 is the time to take stock for the port of Rotterdam. What is achieved, where are we now and where do we have to go?
“In the programming of the World Port Days, visitors discover why the port is such a special place in 2022,” says Sabine Bruijnincx, director of the World Port Days Foundation. “Great professionals use smart technology every day to ensure cleaner, more efficient and safer transit of goods and raw materials. Countless innovative companies are working on the sustainable solutions of the future. At the same time, there are major challenges, such as the necessary CO2 reduction and the thousands of vacancies that are associated with the energy transition and digitalisation of the port. We also want to show that.”
Meanwhile, the World Port Days themselves are not standing still. For example, the organization is setting a good example by signing the Sustainable Deal of the Municipality of Rotterdam and Rotterdam Festivals. With this, eleven event organizers are committing themselves to far-reaching sustainability.
Discovering
the port The program of the World Port Days 2022 includes countless activities in which young and old can discover what is happening in the port in 2022. Impressive ships can be visited on the quays around the Erasmus Bridge, such as those of dredger Van Oord. Traditionally, the Royal Netherlands Navy can be found on the Parkkade, including the marine village and the impressive amphibious transport ship Zr.Ms. Rotterdam. The paratroopers also give various spectacular demonstrations and the commandos show their skills.
With the excursion program to various port companies, visitors can also get a look behind the scenes. You can enjoy various boat trips on the water. In addition, there are various new excursions, such as a visit to the almost completed Blankenburg connection. Inside Rotterdam, Rotterdam Tours and BoTu offer options if you prefer to discover the green side of the harbor on foot or by bike.
Of course, the evening show will not be missing this year, with performances by various artists, boat shows, special effects and of course the traditional fireworks.
